Before my husband and I married, I thought if we just loved each other enough and stayed stubbornly committed to each other, that was all we’d need to live happily ever after. It wasn’t long until I learned a very important lesson, however, and that is that good intentions aren’t enough.
You see, I’ve always had great intentions in my marriage. I adore my husband, and I want to make him happy as much as I can. And yet, we fought a lot in the first few years of our marriage and we weren’t always happy. No matter how hard each of us tried to do the right thing, we always ended up doing the wrong thing without meaning to.
Thank goodness I love to read, because it was after I started reading Christian marriage books that I realized just how many things I was doing wrong. I was trying my best, but I just didn’t have the strategies and tips I needed. And it was by reading books like the ones in this list that I started to learn them.
Now, I’ve hardly arrived. I still mess up way too often and my husband and I are constantly learning how to communicate and love each other better. BUT I can honestly say that we are happier than we’ve ever been and closer than we’ve ever been because of three things: 1. hard work, 2. stubborn commitment and 3. the knowledge we’ve gained from books like these.
Whether your marriage is pretty good or barely hanging on, there’s always room for improvement. Don’t settle for a lackluster marriage where you’re just going through the motions. Read one or several of these books and completely transform your life and your marriage. You won’t regret it.
