Discover Paradise: Here’s What the Bible Says Heaven is Really Like

🌺  Written by Brittany Ann

Have you ever wondered what Heaven is like?

While there’s no way of knowing for sure until we get to Heaven, the Bible does give us several clues and indications of what we’re likely to see and experience there.

It’s unclear if these verses are meant to be taken 100 percent literally or if there is an element of metaphor to them, but either way…

Here are ten Bible verses or passages that tell us what Heaven will be like.

1. Heaven is a Place Jesus Has Prepared for Those Who Love Him

“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” — John 14:2-3

The good news is Heaven is a real place that God is preparing for us to join Him someday.

Unfortunately, just because Heaven exists doesn’t mean we will all go there.

As human beings, we have free will. Those who choose to reject God will not spend eternity with Him, but those who love God will get to Go to Heaven someday.

2. Heaven Will Be Paradise

“Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ Jesus answered him, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.'” — Luke 23:42-43

While we don’t know all the details of what Heaven will be like, we know it will be paradise.

Heaven might be in the clouds, or it might be here on Earth — we don’t know. But we can know we will love it.

3. Heaven Will Have Rivers and Vegetation

“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” — Revelation 22:1-2

Wonder what Heaven will look like?

Revelation tells us that there will be trees, fields of crops, rivers, and more.

These aren’t any ordinary crops, however. The leaves can actually provide healing. You won’t find those here on Earth!

4. Heaven Will Have Gold and Jewels

“The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.” — Revelation 21:18-21

Gold may be highly valuable here on earth, but it won’t be as rare and precious in Heaven.

The Bible tells us that the streets are made with gold, and the buildings are made with jewels.

This will surely be a beautiful sight to behold!

5. In Heaven, We Will Serve and Honor God Forever

“Therefore, ‘they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.” — Revelation 7:15

There is a reason that people who don’t love God won’t go to Heaven… They would be miserable there!

I’m Heaven, all the people and angels will worship God all day long!

It’s far better than the alternative…

6. In Heaven, There Will Be No Crying or Pain

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” — Revelation 21:4

No matter how wonderful or horrible your life has been here on Earth, you’re in for a treat when you get to Heaven.

There will be no crying and no pain — just eternal happiness with God.

7. In Heaven, We Will Never Be Hungry or Thirsty

“‘Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them,’ nor any scorching heat.” — Revelation 7:16

Here on Earth, we have to deal with a lot of hardships, some major and minor. There’s disease, famine, drought, and more.

In Heaven, however, none of that will be a reality. God will take care of our every need so we never have to worry about hunger, thirst, excessive heat, or other harsh conditions we now experience as a result of the Fall.

8. In Heaven, There Will Be Eternal Daytime

“I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there.” — Revelation 21:22-25

No need to take lamps and flashlights with you when you go to Heaven (not that you could anyway…).

In Heaven, we’ll experience eternal daytime and light due to how majestic and glorious God is on His throne.

9. We Will Trade Our Earthly Bodies for Heavenly Bodies

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” — Philippians 3:20-21

Has your Earthly body been somewhat of a disappointment? Maybe it doesn’t look, function, or feel quite the way you’d like.

The good news is: In Heaven, you’ll get a brand new, Heavenly body similar to God’s glorious body. That will be quite an upgrade!

10. Heaven Will Be Far Beyond What We Can Imagine

“However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’—the things God has prepared for those who love him.” — 1 Corinthians 2:9

While the Bible does give us several clues, indications, and descriptions of what Heaven will be like, we won’t know the full picture until we get there.

In the meantime, we just have to dream, imagine, and continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12) while we wait to join God in Heaven someday.

13 Biggest Mysteries of the Bible No One Can Fully Explain

As limited human beings, we can never hope to know God fully.

Yes, we can (and should!) learn as much as we can about Him through prayer, studying the Scriptures, and experience, but some things will always be a mystery too big for us to comprehend.

This lack of understanding doesn’t mean that God isn’t real. It simply means that we’re mere mortals.

The same is true when it comes to the Bible. While there’s a great deal we can learn, there are several biblical mysteries we may never fully understand — and that’s okay! It’s still fun to speculate and learn what we can.
