12 Thought-Provoking Questions People Wish They Could Ask God

🌺  Written by Brittany Ann

Do you ever wish you could meet God face-to-face and ask Him all your burning questions?

While many Christians do enjoy regular communication with God through prayer, hearing God’s voice is a skill that often needs to be developed over time. And furthermore, just because you can hear God’s voice on some things doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to have all of your pressing questions answered.

There are just some questions we’ll have to wait until Heaven to be able to ask.

Recently, on a popular social platform, someone asked, “If God’s real and you could directly ask God just one question, what would it be?”

And, not surprisingly, people had some very insightful questions to ask.

1. Questions About Evil

One of the biggest hurdles that prevents many people from being able to fully believe in and trust God is the question, “How can a loving God allow so much evil in the world?”

This is a legitimate question, and one that Christians have wrestled over for thousands of years.

We can say that God is sovereign, He is ultimately working all things out for our good, or we cause our own suffering with our own free will. Alternately, we could point to the suffering God does prevent, much of which we will never know about on this side of Heaven.

None of that stops this from being a difficult and thought-provoking question, however.

One person would ask, “Are you willing to stop evil, but unable? Or are you able to stop evil, but unwilling?”

2. Questions About Health

Similarly, many Christians and non-Christians get a bit more specific, wondering how God can allow the innocent children and pets to struggle with serious health conditions, seemingly for no reason.

It all seems so unfair, and is absolutely enough to make anyone doubt or question God’s goodness.

Unfortunately, this is one question we may never get a great answer to.

One person would like to know, “Why give kids cancer?”

Another person added, “Why give anything, even animals, cancer?”

3. Questions About Creation

Some people would ask insightful questions about creation. How and why did God create the world the way that He did?

We know that God is all-loving and all-knowing, so we can trust that He has His reasons… Even if we don’t always know or understand what they are.

One person would ask, “How could you have possibly said, ‘let there be light’ on the first day but then made the sun on the 4th day?”

Someone else would ask God, “Who made you?”

4. Questions About Free Will

Others struggle with the concept of free will.

While free will and the ability to make our own choices sounds great in theory, unfortunately, it can have several unintended and very negative side effects — both for us and for others.

Sometimes we wonder if we would have been better off had God not given us all free will in the first place. I guess we we’ll never know.

A person would ask, “If you truly know what choices we will make before making them, why does anyone need to worship you to gain entry to heaven? You already know the outcome, why all these rules if you’ve already decided.”

Another person wants to know, “Why are we given free will if it leads to so much evil?”

5. Questions About Animals

On a lighter note, many people shared that they would love to ask God about the animals He created, particularly the more unique or sillier animals like the platypus or dinosaurs.

Because dinosaurs lived long before our time, we will likely always have questions about the details of their lives.

However, there is one thing we can know for sure: God is very creative!

One person wants to ask, “Seriously, the platypus?”

Another person responded, “I’d ask him to explain the whole dinosaur thing. Why are they extinct?”

6. Questions About Religion

For those who care deeply about getting all of the particular details of their religious beliefs correct, it only makes sense that they would ask questions about doctrine.

Which denomination is correct, if any? Where are we correct in our beliefs, and where are we way off without knowing it?

These would be interesting conversations to have!

A person would ask, “Why are there so many different religions?”

7. Questions About God

Alternatively, many people would love to know more about God Himself.

While the Bible does give us a great deal of information about God’s character, there is always more to learn.

Many Christians look forward to the day when they can spend time with God face-to-face and have all their questions answered.

One person wants to know, “What is the greatest misconception humans have about You?”

Another person would ask, “How can individuals directly experience Your presence?”

8. Questions About the Future

While some people would ask questions about the past, others would like additional insight into the future.

We cannot blame them. It would be nice to know what we have to look forward to (or avoid!) as well as any steps we can take now to prepare.

This could really help us live better lives now, in light of what our futures might hold.

One person would ask, “What is the future of human civilization?”

9. Questions About Purpose

It makes sense that many Christians (and even non-Christians) would ask questions relating to our purpose as individuals or to the purpose of life as a whole.

As spiritual beings, most people do believe that their life has (or should have) summer greater meaning.

However, it can be difficult to know what that meaning might be when you are busy trying to balance work, school, family, and taking care of a home.

One person wants to know, “Why do I exist if everything I do will be forgotten, even by me?”

Someone else wants to know, “What is the ultimate purpose behind the existence?”

10. Questions About Heaven

Many people would love to know more about Heaven and what it is like.

One person has questions about Heaven and wants to know, “Is Heaven real? How do I get there and can I bring my dog?”

Someone else would ask, “What happens after we die?”

Thankfully, the Bible gives us quite a few details about the afterlife and what we can expect, particularly in the book of Revelation.

11. Questions About God’s Will

Sometimes it seems as the life would be so much easier if God would simply tell us what He wants from us or why He put us on this Earth.

While the Bible contains lots of general instructions, they can be kind of vague.

Many people would love to easily discover God’s purpose for their life specifically.

A person would ask, “What are your plans for me?”

12. Questions About Suffering

Suffering can come in all shapes and sizes. What one person can handle with ease might be completely unbearable to someone else.

Unfortunately, life doesn’t seem to differentiate between who gets what type of suffering in life.

While we often wish that “good” people would have a life of ease and “bad” people would suffer, life doesn’t always work that way, and it is not always easy to understand why.

One person wants to know, “Why do good people suffer and bad people prosper?”

Another person would ask, “What’s with all the suffering and cruelty?”
