7 Powerful Prayers for Your Husband
For faith-filled wives, prayer is a vital part of everyday life. And while we hit our knees in prayer for many things, we especially find ourselves praying for our family, including our husbands.
However, sometimes we get so busy with our day that we fall into a prayer routine. Have you ever found yourself there? If you’re anything like me, you may have discovered yourself starting to cycle through the same prayers day after day, forgetting to vary your discussions with God. Don’t worry; you’re not alone in this!
When I started repeating prayers for my husband and was seeking fresh ways to bring him before the Lord, I began getting creative in my approach to include the types of prayers I’ve listed below.
In this article, we’ll talk about seven powerful prayers for your husband that are strategic and will cover many aspects of his life to help him continue becoming the man he was created to be.
7 Powerful Prayers for Your Husband
Sometimes we really struggle with what to pray for when it comes to our husbands. We may pray for issues that are currently at the forefront of our minds, such as a new promotion, but there are so many other things that are important to pray for, too.
Here is a list of several areas in your husband’s life that would benefit from powerful, strategic prayers. I’ll also include an example prayer for each in case it helps you implement the information.
1. A Prayer for His Mind
One area of your husband’s life that could benefit from prayer is his mind.
No one is immune to the temptations that enter their thoughts, including our spouses, so it’s important to pray for their ability to resist temptations, turn their thoughts to positive things, and seek wisdom in all of their decisions.
Example Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for Your provision over my husband. Today, I come asking specifically for the welfare of his mind. Please help him to resist the temptations that may come up at work, with friends, or on his devices. Give him wisdom to recognize these attacks and strength to resist them. Please, also, help him to focus on things that are positive instead of negative. I pray that he will keep his thoughts directed at You, regardless of what happens in his everyday life. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.
2. A Prayer for His Words
There are so many opportunities in our husbands’ lives to speak words that build people up or tear people down. That is why one of my frequent prayers for my husband centered around his words.
The Bible says that life and death are in the power of the tongue, and so whether our husbands are interacting with us, our children, our neighbors, or his coworkers, he has the ability to make a difference in the lives around him by the way he speaks.
Example Prayer:
Dear God, please be with my husband today as he goes to work, interacts with our neighbors, and leads our children. I pray that his words are life-giving and that he encourages many as he goes about his business. Give him the right things to say even in his most difficult moments. Thank You for providing in this area of my husband’s life. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
3. A Prayer for His Heart
Another super powerful way to pray for your husband is for his heart.
Here’s the truth that we sometimes overlook—our outward actions don’t always reflect the inner condition of our hearts. I don’t say this to heap shame on anyone—no one is perfect, and we all make mistakes! This is just a great area where we can pray for our husbands to not only “check the boxes” so to speak, but also live his Christian life from the inside out.
Example Prayer:
Dear God, You say in the Bible that You don’t look at our outer appearance. Rather, You look at our hearts. Please walk with my husband this week as he handles his affairs, and help him to do everything from a clean heart. Thank you, Lord, for your faithfulness in this. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
4. A Prayer for His Hands and Feet
Along with other areas of his life, it’s so vital for one of your prayers to be about his hands and feet.
Of course, I am speaking in the metaphorical sense. Whenever I would pray prayers for my husband concerning his hands and feet, I was referring to what he did and where he went.
Do you remember the childhood song, “Be Careful Little Hands What You Do?” Another line from that song is, “Be careful little feet where you go.” While that song was meant to teach us accountability when we were young, the principles still apply to us today as adults.
How is your husband spending his time? Where does he go after work and on the weekends? Who does he answer to for accountability? These are factors we should all consider in our personal lives, so they are powerful to pray for in regards to your husband.
Example Prayer:
Dear God, I praise You for walking with us wherever we go. I ask you to guide my husband’s time and choices this week, directing his hands and his feet in Your work for the kingdom. Help him not to get distracted with things that are not of You, nor stray to places that can fill him with temptations. Please keep him accountable to the right people and keep his actions in the light for all to see. In Jesus’s name, we pray. Amen.
5. A Prayer for His Relationships
When you pray for your husband, another important aspect of his life to keep in mind is his relationships.
There are so many options for relationship prayers. You may want to narrow in on the ones that are the most challenging for him right now. For example, if he has a stubborn coworker who is hard to work with, or if he’s missing connection with your kids, then those would be good relationships to specifically highlight in your prayers.
Example Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for watching over my husband. This week, I ask that you watch over his relationships. Please cultivate connection and godly influence into them, and walk with my husband as he navigates the challenges. Give him patience when he needs it, and guide him into relationships that are God-honoring and uplifting. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
6. A Prayer for His Goals
Everyone has goals in their lives, and your husband is no different. Sometimes they are large goals that are so lofty that they might feel out of reach, and sometimes they are small goals that are getting him from day to day.
And what’s more, his goals may encompass all kinds of things. Perhaps he has a business goal or a personal goal for fitness and health. He may have a financial goal for your family or even a spiritual goal for his own growth.
Regardless of the type of goal, your husband would benefit greatly from a strategic prayer in this area of his life. And who better to pray for his goals than you?
Example Prayer:
Dear God, I come before You with my husband and his goals on my mind. He has been working so hard to achieve these goals, and so I am entrusting them to you. Please watch over him as he chips away at his plans and dreams—please guide his steps and offer him wisdom and worthwhile opportunities along the way. Give him perseverance to see his goals through to the end, and give him the satisfaction of a job well done, no matter the outcome. I give You the glory for any achievements my husband makes. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
7. A Prayer for His Submission to God
One of the most powerful prayers for my husband has been for his submission to God. This is because regardless of what comes your husband’s way in his life—planned or unplanned, good or bad, easy or challenging—he will weather it well if he is submitted to God.
His ability to see God as his ultimate authority will also help him be the leader in your home that God calls him to be. He’ll be looking to God as his source of wisdom and strength, rather than looking inward at his own might.
Example Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for loving my husband so deeply. I pray that he loves you deeply as well and that he will ultimately see you as his highest authority in this life. Whether he is making decisions or looking for comfort, I pray that he looks to you above all else. You are Alpha and Omega, and everything begins and ends with You. Please hold my husband close this week and help him love You and submit to You more each day. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
How to Pray for a Difficult Husband

As someone who has walked this road, I want to tell you with a resounding YES that these prayers are for you! In fact, some of them are especially crafted with you in mind. There is no greater weapon we wives have against spiritual attacks than prayer, and so incorporating these strategic prayers into your daily practices will cover your husband in ways that nothing else will.
